MDI schools hire new curriculum coordinator

BAR HARBOR — Julie Meltzer, an education improvement specialist with more than 20 years of experience, has been hired as curriculum coordinator for the Mount Desert Island Regional School System (MDIRSS).

She succeeds Joanne Harriman, who left in June to become superintendent of schools in Orono.

Ms. Meltzer and her family live in Bass Harbor. Her daughter is a student at MDI High School.

Her salary for the 11 months ending next June 30 is $81,390.

Ms. Meltzer has a master’s degree in creative arts in learning from Lesley College and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech.
