BAR HARBOR — Diplomas will be handed out to 112 members of the senior class at Mount Desert Island High School this Sunday.
The graduation ceremony will be at 2 p.m. in the school’s Bernard Parady Gymnasium.
This year’s commencement speaker is Don Grieco, a science and dance teacher who is retiring after nearly 20 years at the school.
The co-valedictorians of the graduating class are twin sisters Isabel and Olivia Erickson of Bar Harbor. Three members of the class will have speaking roles. Gus DenDanto was chosen to speak by the faculty. Jane Pappas was selected by a vote of the senior class. Class president Sean Beaulieu also will address the graduates.
The commencement ceremony will be simulcast in the high school’s Higgins-Demas Theater, which will be open for overflow seating. Anyone with special seating needs may contact dean of students Ian Braun.
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the school cafeteria for graduates and their families and friends.
Then, starting at 6 p.m., many of the graduates are expected to participate in the 12 hours of Project Graduation activities at Somes Sound View Campground in Hall Quarry.
The high school’s annual awards night, at which scholarships and awards are presented to members of the senior class, is tonight is Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
