NEW YORK, N.Y. — Islesford native Jacob Lief is founder of the Ubuntu Education Fund, which provides “cradle to career” support for children of South Africa’s rural townships. The Fund is entering its 16th year and has become a model in the development world.
Lief and journalist Andrea Thompson have just published a book about the Fund’s work, “I am because you are.”
Lief is the son of Cynthia and Dan Lief, owners of the Islesford Dock Restaurant and Gallery. He grew up on Islesford and worked as a sternman for David Thomas.
