COA helps us ‘get engaged’

BAR HARBOR — College of the Atlantic has organized a series of informational sessions aimed at engaging students and the public in the issues and candidates of the 2014 election season.

“Get Engaged” is a weekly series of groups who will come to campus and set up tables over the next several weeks to engage people in their missions, campaigns and ideologies. Additional groups are being added.

“Our goal is to bring diverse voices to campus in an informal setting so you can get to know them, find ways to get engaged, and hopefully become more informed about your options as election season draws near,” said Jamie McKown, who holds the James Russell Wiggins Chair in Government and Polity at the college.

Representatives will be tabling outside Blair Dining Hall – also known as TAB – from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the days listed. “If you are interested in what they do, please stop by and chat with them about their mission, internship options and ways to volunteer if you are so inclined,” McKown said. “Or simply grab some literature for your information.”

The schedule of the remaining 2014 Get Engaged lunch sessions:

Friday, Sept. 26: Cutler for Governor (Independent for Maine Governor)

Monday, Sept. 29: Joe Marshall for Maine House (Republican for Maine House of Representatives)

Tuesday, Sept. 30: Brian Hubbell for Maine House (Democrat for Maine House of Representatives)

Thursday, Oct. 2: Brian Langley for Maine Senate (Republican for Maine State Senate)
