BAR HARBOR — Alex Birdsall has joined the College of the Atlantic staff as the Sustainable Business Program manager.
After graduating from Oberlin with a double major in Hispanic studies and religion in 2006, Birdsall received a master’s degree in teaching from Fordham University and was a bilingual elementary teacher in the NYC Public Schools.
After several years in the public school system, he moved into sustainable enterprise and joined a solar start-up housed at the incubator at Pratt University. The company, called Sustainably Minded Interactive Technology, developed Solar Ivy, a system of architectural PV solar membrane structures and was awarded a provisional patent in 2011. In his roll at the company, he translated complex engineering concepts into a comprehensible language to increase awareness, drive sales and attract investment.
More recently, Birdsall worked in marketing and communication at the water purification firm Hydro-Photon in Blue Hill and went on to become global sales director at the weather station company RainWise, now in Trenton.
