BAR HARBOR — Ava Drennan of Bar Harbor, a student at Mount Desert Island High School, is one of 11 high school seniors in Maine to have been awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The corporation said in a press release that 2,500 scholarship recipients nationwide were selected from more than 15,000 finalists for 2018.
“Winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies,” the corporation said. “The number of winners in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.”
Winners may use their scholarships at any regionally accredited college or university in the country.
Drennan, the daughter of Matt Drennan of Bar Harbor and Megan McOsker of Bar Harbor, will attend Loyola University in New Orleans in the fall. She plans to study quantitative analysis.
