Doctor to talk about sleep apnea

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Dr. Bert Zbar will discuss the causes, effects and treatments of sleep apnea at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 3-4 p.m.

Fatigue is a common symptom in the elderly. The commonly believed reasons vary – tiredness goes with old age, it’s part of the territory, nothing can be done about it. But there are real causes for fatigue that can be treated, allowing people to regain their energy. Zbar will discuss the causes of fatigue in the elderly and will explain what sleep apnea is and how it is diagnosed and treated.

Zbar is a physician-scientist who has worked at the National Cancer Institute for almost 50 years. He was trained as an internist and medical oncologist. His research is focused on inherited susceptibility to cancer, particularly inherited susceptibility to kidney cancer. He is a member of a large team of physicians and scientists who study urologic cancers.

This is the second part of a three-part presentation geared to health questions and concerns. Call the library at 244-7065.
