‘Discosaurus’ wins belt sander races

BAR HARBOR — The action was fast, furious, and just plain silly at the annual Atlantic Brewing Company Belt Sander Race in Town Hill on Sunday.

The event was part of Racetival Weekend that also included war canoe races on Long Pond in Somesville.

The races followed a best BBQ contest at Mainely Meats and the canoe races. Nearly a dozen of the electrically-powered hand tools were decorated with a Disco them for the races.

The overall winner was “Discosaurus,” owned by Tyson Starling of Bar Harbor, a former brewery employee. First prize was a powered pole saw.

Other entries included Disco Duck, Disco Inferno, The Monkey, the Silver Fox and Captain America.

Bryce Cough of Bar Harbor, decked out in afro wig and other wild disco clothing, was the master of ceremonies. A crowd of nearly 100 people watched the action and enjoyed sipping the brewery’s products and eating BBQ as the sanders raced each other down the custom-made track.
