Courthouse expands hours

ELLSWORTH — Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6, state offices at the Hancock County Courthouse will be open half an hour later.

As of that date, the Ellsworth courthouse will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. instead of closing at 4 p.m. The extra 30 minutes is the result of the legislature’s approval of funding to increase the workweek for employees from 37.5 hours to 40 hours, according to Mary Ann Lynch of the Maine Judicial Branch.

“This will increase access for those who need the Maine courts,” chief Justice Leigh Saufley said in a press release.
