Three hurt in dump truck crash

TRENTON — A passenger in a car driven by a Bucksport man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries after the vehicle crashed into the rear end of a dump truck while traveling on Route 3 Tuesday morning.

State police said Brandon Tracy, 18, of Bucksport was eastbound in a 1999 Chevrolet when his vision was obscured by sunlight and by dirt on the windshield. Tracy failed to see the dump truck, which was loaded with gravel and ahead of his car.

Tracy and a passenger, Derek Pomeroy, 27, of Bucksport, were treated for minor injuries, state police said. Another passenger, Richard Gainer, 29, of Bucksport, was taken to the Bangor hospital.

The driver of the truck, Chauncey Hooper, 67, of Penobscot, was not injured.

Trooper Jacob Ferland reported that the accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
