TRENTON — A 40-pound American flag flying from a pole at 171 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton at Linnehan Homes was stolen over the weekend.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the thief or thieves responsible.

The flag measures 20 feet by 38 feet.

If it seems you’ve read this story before, you have. A similar flag that flew at the former Linnehan Auto business was stolen in 2008 and recovered in 2010 during the course of another investigation by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

That 2008 theft was the third such large flag theft in five years. Previous thefts occurred before the Fourth of July holidays.

The Maine State Police is investigating the latest flag theft. Anyone with information may call 866-2121.

Tipsters may also contact Linnehan Homes at 812-8558 or email [email protected].
