SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Selectmen on Tuesday approved the purchase of reporting software for the police department that is compatible with systems used by other local law enforcement agencies.
The software from Spillman Technologies Inc. is the same as used by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the Ellsworth Police Department and the Mount Desert Police Department.
Bar Harbor is scheduled to switch to the system as well, according to police Chief Alan Brown. The Spillman software would not only be more useful for Southwest Harbor police, it would enable better sharing of information between agencies, Brown said.
The initial cost to the town is $46,000 plus a $5,700 maintenance fee, Brown said.
