Police investigate possible hit and run

BAR HARBOR — Police say they are investigating a black pickup truck that may or may not have struck an 11-year old girl on a bicycle Wednesday afternoon. She suffered an injured leg.

The girl was reportedly with a friend playing in and around a driveway on Woodbury Road around 5 p.m. Wednesday when a black truck with gold lettering on a door reportedly struck the bike. “The victim said the driver stopped, asked if she was okay and then left,” Officer Brad O’Neil told the Islander on Thursday. O’Neil said the victim went to the hospital in a family car where her injury was diagnosed as a hairline fracture.

O’Neil located the vehicle at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and spoke with the other party in the incident. “The stories are completely different,” he said. “There is no conclusive evidence that the vehicle struck the bike.” He plans to interview the two girls again. No charges have been filed.
