Lost gun picked up out of road

SOUTHWEST HARBOR – What would you do if you spotted a rifle or shotgun lying in the middle of Main Street? When confronted Tuesday with that scenario, one man, who police have so far not been able to identify, simply picked up the weapon and walked off.

Police here received several reports around 2 p.m. of a long gun falling out of the back of a pickup truck on Main Street near the downtown. The driver, unaware, did not stop.

Acting Chief Mike Miller and Officer Franklin Burke responded, but the gun was gone before they arrived.

Witnesses said an unidentified man picked up the weapon and left the scene.
