BAR HARBOR — An accident on Des Isle Avenue on April 15 caused significant damage to an apartment building. Anne Norwood, 73, of Mount Desert told police she was pulling into a parking space at 16 Des Isle Avenue with her 2014 Subaru when the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated. Finding herself headed straight toward the building, she turned the wheel hard, Norwood told police, but the vehicle still managed to clip the structure.
The crash destroyed numerous columns that had supported a second-floor porch and caused significant damage to the building’s exterior stairs, according to reports. The car also suffered significant damage.
The building owner was on the property and arranging for repairs before emergency responders had cleared the scene.
Keith Mahoney, 54, of Frisco, Colo., was arrested April 16 on a charge of operating while under the influence (OUI).
Brian Smith, 42, of Bar Harbor was summonsed Saturday on a charge of OUI.
A run-in with a deer led to the destruction of a vehicle April 14. Gloria Snauffer, 68, of Mount Desert was driving a 2001 Chevy Cavalier on Route 102 when a deer ran out in front of her, according to reports. The collision with the deer propelled it through the windshield, causing significant damage to the roof in the process, police say. The vehicle was considered a total loss. Snauffer suffered minor injuries from broken glass, reports state.
Jacob Silverman, 28, of Hancock was summonsed Saturday on a charge of possession of a useable amount of marijuana after police investigated an occupied vehicle parked after hours in a Hulls Cove parking lot.
Llewellyn Dwyer, 32, of Trenton was summonsed Sunday on charges of speeding and displaying a fictitious inspection sticker.
Officers escorted a person from a Cromwell Harbor Road property following a domestic argument Sunday.
Officer Dustin Tierney collected and disposed of a used syringe found on Route 102 on Monday.
Dustin Lawford, 25, of Tremont was summonsed Monday on a charge of violating the conditions of his release.
Officer Soren Sundberg helped the captain of a fishing boat find a safe location to dock ahead of an incoming storm Monday.
Two vehicles were damaged Friday in an accident on Route 198 in Somesville.
Police said James Clunan, 77, of Mount Desert was turning left onto Fitz Hugh Lane and pulled in front of an oncoming vehicle driven by Nicholas Portlook, 66, of Southwest Harbor. No injuries were reported.
Clunan’s 2007 Toyota sustained $4,000 damage. Damage to Portlook’s 2002 Toyota is estimated at $4,500.
A digital camera was found last week in the parking lot next to the police station in Northeast Harbor.
The sheriff’s department has charged a Hancock man with the Dec. 17 theft of a landscaping trailer from a Trenton parking lot.
Detective Alan Brown on April 13 summonsed James Logan, 43, on a theft charge. The trailer was recovered.
Police here responded to two domestic assault complaints last week, one on April 13, the other the following day. In both instances, officers determined there was no physical contact, and no one was charged.
