Island Police Log: No injuries reported in Eagle Lake Road accident

BAR HARBOR — A minor car accident was reported during a snow squall the morning of Feb. 24.

Ronan McLoughlin, 41, of Bar Harbor was driving his Chevy pickup toward town on the Eagle Lake Road near the Park Loop Road overpass when he slowed abruptly to avoid another vehicle that spun out in front of him. Melissa Beal, 38, of Southwest Harbor was driving her Subaru behind the pickup. It struck the pickup when she couldn’t stop it in time. No injuries and only minor damage were reported.

Police are investigating a report received Feb. 21 from a Rodick Street business owner. He thought someone had broken into the business and stolen property worth about $12, police said.

Three boys were asked to leave a West Street property where they were reportedly skateboarding without permission Friday afternoon. Police warned them not to return to the property.

A Bar Harbor woman reported the theft of her wallet from her workplace Friday evening. Police are investigating.

Someone reported low wires across Main Street Monday morning near a construction site. Officer Brad O’Neil responded, and workers pulled the wires up out of the road.

Southwest Harbor

A Southwest Harbor man recently arrested on charges of forgery and driving without a license was back in police custody during the weekend.

Brandon Thomas, 27, was arrested Saturday by Officer Rick Graham on charges of forgery, theft and violating the conditions of his release.

According to Chief Alan Brown, Thomas is accused of stealing and forging checks and depositing the money into another account. Three checks totaling more than $1,000 were written on a closed bank account and cashed.

The victim notified police after receiving the returned checks from the bank, Brown said.

Trash was strewn on the playground of the Pemetic Elementary School on Sunday. The initial report was that hypodermic needles had been found in a bag, but Lt. Mike Miller reported that was not the case.

Cory Guimond, no age given, of New Brunswick, Canada, was summonsed Sunday on a charge of improper passing.

Mount Desert

Joey Colon, 27, of Mount Desert was summonsed Feb. 23 on an assault charge after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with his Northeast Harbor roommate.

Police disposed of a hypodermic needle found alongside the road at the intersection of Route 198 and the Eagle Lake Road.


The sheriff’s department is investigating the Feb. 23 report of a sexual assault involving two juveniles.

Commercial trucks operating in violation of road postings were reported Feb. 24. The sheriff’s office is to conduct additional patrols in the area.

Christopher Youngblood, 23, of Franklin was summonsed Feb. 24 on a charge of operating after suspension.

Swans Island

Deputy Rob Morang assisted the Maine Marine Patrol in an investigation involving possible commercial fishing regulation violations last week. No violations were found.
