Island Police Log: Hunter asked to move on

BAR HARBOR — Police received a report Friday morning of someone hunting on private property off Ocean Mist Road. Officer Wyman Tapley and Game Warden Phil Richter responded, found the hunter and asked him to leave. The hunter reportedly was unfamiliar with the area and unaware he was on private property.

Kerry Wholey, 66, of Ellsworth was arrested on a charge of operating while under the influence Dec. 25 on Sand Point Road after a vehicle she was driving reportedly left the roadway and struck a tree. No major injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.

August Baker, 47, of Bar Harbor was driving a Cadillac Seville Friday on Main Street when the driver’s side door of his car reportedly was hit by another vehicle. Baker was beginning a left turn into a parking spot, according to reports, when Patrick Ford, 35, of Northeast Harbor, driving a Honda Accord, attempted to pass on the left. The front right corner of the Accord struck the Cadillac, resulting in minor damage. No injuries were reported.

Gunshots were reported in the area of the Knox and Gilbert Farm roads Sunday afternoon. Officers checked the area and did not see or hear any shots, according to reports.

Mount Desert

Gabriel Kandutsch, 18, of Bar Harbor escaped serious injury, but the 1998 BMW he was driving was declared a total loss when it rolled over into a ditch after he lost control of it Dec. 22 on Route 198. He reported that he had experienced problems with the car’s steering since it ran off the road the week before.

Taylor McDevitt, 26, of Bernard was summonsed Dec. 22 on a charge of operating without a license.

Jacob Briggs, no age given, of Trenton was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor for evaluation of possible injuries and a medical condition that may have contributed to an accident on Main Street in Somesville on Dec. 23. His 2000 Buick LeSabre sustained extensive damage when it veered off the street, struck a utility pole and broke a wooden guardrail. No charges were filed.

Southwest Harbor

A Southwest Harbor business owner reported on Dec. 23 that three checks had been stolen, forged and cashed. The incident is under investigation.
