BAR HARBOR — A Bucksport man racked up a slew of traffic charges after Officer Judson Cake watched him allegedly fail to stop his motorcycle for a stop sign on Mount Desert Street April 22.
Matthew Steinglass, 29, was arrested on a charge of operating while under the influence (OUI) and summonsed on charges of failure to stop for an officer, violating his bail conditions, operating with a suspended registration, criminal speeding, driving to endanger and possession of a useable amount of marijuana.
Firefighters doused a chimney fire at a Crooked Road residence on Saturday. There was smoke from the chimney but no flames showing when firefighters arrived. It was determined that the fire had not spread outside of the chimney.
A woodstove was extinguished and cleaned out, as was a wood furnace in the basement. Several buckets of ash and creosote were removed from the chimney and the basement ventilated of smoke.
Heather Wheaton, 28, of Mount Desert was arrested Saturday on a charge of OUI.
Emergency responders helped a Ledgewood Avenue homeowner April 21 after power lines became partially disconnected from their house. The master breaker in the house was shut off, as the power was going on and off while the loose line outside arced with another line. Emera Maine power company was contacted.
A utility pole was destroyed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday. Police say Benjamin Moniz, 22, of Bar Harbor was driving on Route 3 when his 2004 Toyota van went off the road and struck a pole. The Toyota sustained “severe” damage to the front passenger side. Moniz was not injured.
Courtney Sullivan, 22, of Bar Harbor was summonsed Sunday on a charge of operating after suspension.
Kevin Miller, 34, of Bangor was arrested Sunday on a charge of OUI.
Firefighters responded to an unattended brush fire at a construction site on Bayview Drive on Saturday. It appeared the fire had been largely extinguished with a hose but had flared back up. The area was doused with water and raked until there were no more signs of fire. Bar Harbor police assisted at the site.
Officer Tim Frost removed two juveniles who were trespassing on a West Street hotel property on Saturday.
Police took several reports this week from residents who said they had received recorded phone calls purporting to be from the IRS. Officers advised that the calls were a scam and that anyone receiving them should just hang up the phone.
Firefighters responded to a Woodbury Road apartment April 21 where an electrical smell was present. It was determined that water leaking from a hot water heater had penetrated and shorted out the unit’s thermostat. Power and water to the unit was shut off and the resident advised not to use it until it was repaired or replaced.
A Bar Harbor man was arrested Saturday for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs.
James Hall, 34, was arrested on a charge of OUI following a drug recognition examination by Officer Dana Austin.
The remains of a burned ice shack were found at Round Pond and reported to police Saturday. The warden’s service was notified of the incident.
An Otter Creek man complained Friday that a rock had been thrown at his vehicle as he drove home.
Police are investigating the theft of a boat, motor and trailer reported Monday.
The green 12-foot aluminum boat and eight-horsepower outboard were taken from a property in Jody’s Acres.
Also on Monday, a Dirigo Road resident reported someone had broken into a shed on the property.
