Hotel rampage brings arrest

BAR HARBOR — A guest at the Bar Harbor Inn reported that a man was trying to break into their hotel room early Sunday morning. Officers arrested Justin Roberge, 21, of Sanford, on charges of aggravated criminal mischief and criminal trespassing. Roberge, who officers said was intoxicated, reportedly damaged three cars in the parking lot by kicking them. He was taken to Hancock County Jail.

Roberge was not staying at the hotel and he did not know the tenants of the room he was trying to break into.

After an interview with police on June 18, Jessica Bunker, 24, of Cranberry Islands, was summonsed on a charge of violation of privacy. Bunker, a certified nursing assistant at a senior living facility, reportedly sent a video message to a former co-worker of a resident in a private area. The former co-worker reported it to the employer, who reported it to police.

A Florida man was arrested June 26 after he was reportedly heard yelling and swearing at people in Agamont Park on June 26. Police arrested Robert Doane, 39, on charges of disorderly conduct and violating the conditions of his release. He was taken to Hancock County Jail.

About $100 worth of food was reported stolen from a freezer at a Main Street business on June 27. The matter is under investigation.

A 2012 Chevy driven by Jennifer Stauffer, 25, of Troy, reportedly hit and killed a deer on Eagle Lake Road early on June 27. Stauffer was not injured but the vehicle had some damage to the driver’s side.

Officers arrested Bradley Barker, 30, of Bar Harbor, after he was reportedly stumbling around intoxicated on School Street on June 28. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for $200 of unpaid fines and taken to Hancock County Jail.

Officers stopped a vehicle on Park Street early Friday morning that reportedly ran a stop sign. The driver, Eric Martin, 28, of Otter Creek, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence. He was bailed from the police station.

A 2009 Dodge driven by Evelyn Davis, 78, of Bar Harbor, reportedly pulled out in front of and collided with a 2001 Honda driven by Julia Callahan, 50, of Mount Desert, while turning left onto Route 233 from Cleftstone Road on Friday. Davis said she did not see Callahan’s vehicle. Both cars needed to be towed and both women reported minor chest pain from the accident.

After a neighbor reported a fight between a couple on Main Street, police responded and arrested Bethany Harris, 27, of Bar Harbor, on a charge of domestic assault. Harris reportedly slapped and pushed her boyfriend. She was taken to Hancock County Jail.

Officers are investigating the theft of sunglasses from a Main Street business June 29.

Following a traffic stop on School Street, police arrested Nadine Gabel-Richards, 51, of Bar Harbor, on a charge of operating under the influence. She was bailed from the police station.

Kaira Fox, 18, of Old Town, was summonsed on a charge of operating after suspension after being pulled over for alleged erratic operation on Eagle Lake Road on Saturday.

A Brewer man was arrested on a criminal mischief charge early Saturday morning after he reportedly kicked in the back door of a car on Access Alley. Sidney St. Peter, 22 was reportedly drunk at the time. He was bailed from the police station.

After identifying parties involved in a car fire on Main Street near the ball field Saturday, officers arrested Anthony Shuman, 31, of Lagrange, on an outstanding warrant for $500 in outstanding fines.

Following a Tuesday traffic stop on Route 3 in Salisbury Cove, officers summonsed Teagan White, 22, of Bar Harbor, on a charge of operating with a suspended registration.


Mount Desert

Officers conducted a detail for operating under the influence on the night of June 26. Five cars were stopped and four warnings were issued; two warnings for vehicle defects, one warning for failure to dim high beams and one warning for failure to maintain their lane. One person was given a speeding ticket.

After backing into a trash can in a driveway on Neighborhood Road on Friday, a 2014 Green International truck driven by Ryan Pinkham, 33, of Lamoine, accelerated forward into a 2012 Honda owned by Daniel Horning, 30, of Bar Harbor. The Honda suffered minor damage to the rear passenger side. No one was injured.


Southwest Harbor

Police received a phone call from a seasonal resident who reported an aggressive deer on her property around 4:30 p.m. on June 27. According to police, the deer had chased the resident’s dogs, as well as an adult person at the home. The resident was concerned the deer may be sick, police said. The situation was referred to game wardens.

Around 11 a.m. on Friday, police stopped a man who was reportedly hitchhiking and walking on the wrong side of the highway on Route 102. Russell Crossman, 38, of Southwest Harbor, was arrested on an outstanding warrant, according to reports.

Lisa Bowden, 47, of Bass Harbor was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence Sunday night following a field sobriety test. Police stopped her car just before 11 p.m. for speeding and having a tail light out, according to reports. Bowden was transported to Bar Harbor for processing, police said.



Motorcycles typically don’t fare well against pickup trucks; this time was different. Police reported a 2002 Chevrolet 1500, driven by Karen Prosser, 54, of Fort Kent, allegedly struck a parked 2016 BMW motorcycle around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Upon impact, the motorcycle, owned by David Dube, 56, of Sandy Hook Conn., fell to its side, according to reports. There was no damage to the truck in the crash that took place in the Swans Island Ferry Terminal parking lot. The motorcycle was slightly damaged when it fell.

A Mount Desert man who owns property in Tremont reported a trailer was taken from the property sometime between May 25 and Friday, according to reports. There were no plates on the trailer and the brand is not known, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office received a call Friday from a woman in Tremont reporting a steel drum and three used tires had been taken from her property in the last two weeks. There are no suspects at this time, according to reports.



No charges were filed when police were called to intervene in a fight between a 34-year-old man and a teenager in Trenton, according to reports. Police received the call around 11:30 a.m. on Friday.


Acadia National Park

Phillip Garber, 39, of Noblesville, Ind., reportedly backed his vehicle into the wall at one of the Sand Beach parking areas June 21. The vehicle had minor damage.

A Massachusetts man was cited on a charge of possession of marijuana June 21. The citation was issued to William Burgoyne, 31, of Gloucester, at the parking area on Fish House Road.

Julie Millett, 35, of Palmyra, was cited on a charge of obstructing traffic June 21 on the Park Loop Road near Kebo Brook.

A woman was rescued from the Gorham Mountain trail and taken to MDI Hospital in a Bar Harbor ambulance June 22. The 57-year-old had fallen and injured both ankles, according to reports, and was carried to the trailhead in a litter.

Rangers assisted a 71-year-old woman who reportedly fell on the rocks at the Seawall Picnic Area June 22. She was bleeding from her head and knee, rangers said, but did not want to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Tracy Frazier, 42, of Louisville, Ky., was cited on a charge of speeding on Lower Mountain Road June 22.

Bar Harbor paramedics assisted a 64-year-old woman in Anemone Cave June 23, rangers said, after she reportedly fell and cut her head. She was helped back to the parking lot and taken to MDI Hospital in an ambulance.

A 17-year-old was cited on a charge of obstructing traffic June 23 at Bubble Rock Overlook.

Saraiya Dhaval, no age given, of Miami, Fl., was cited on a charge of speeding on the Paradise Hill Road section of the Park Loop Road June 23.

A passenger had to be extricated through the windshield after a car with three people in it reportedly struck a coping stone at the intersection of Park Loop Rood and West Street Extension June 24 and flipped onto its side. Rangers believe driver inattention to be the cause. Four people were in the car, according to reports: the driver, a 70-year-old man from Allen, Texas, his 70-year-old wife, 67-year-old brother, and the driver’s son, who is under 18. Three of them were able to get out of the car themselves. The woman, who was sitting in the back seat, was extricated by rangers and Bar Harbor EMS. The Park Loop Road was closed for about an hour from West Street to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.

A 64-year-old Virginia man reportedly went over the handlebars of his bicycle on Day Mountain June 24 and broke his clavicle. He walked most of the way back to Wildwoods Stables, rangers said, and drove himself to MDI Hospital for treatment.

Joshua Dembitzer, 18, of Spring Valley, N.Y., was cited on a charge of possession of alcohol by a minor June 26.

Three vehicles were towed and 14 were issued warnings for illegal parking on Cadillac Mountain June 26.

Rangers and Bar Harbor EMS assisted a 65-year-old woman from Pasadena, Md., who fell and injured her ankle on the Cadillac Summit Path June 27.
