Head-on crash claims driver

TRENTON — A Hancock woman died after her car hit an SUV nearly head-on while rounding a curve on the Jordan River Road in Trenton Monday morning.

Brenda Woods, 53, was northbound in a 2010 Hyundai around 9:50 a.m. when her vehicle drifted across the centerline on a curve near the Lamoine town line. The Hyundai struck an oncoming 2010 Nissan driven by Jennifer Richter, 24, of Lamoine.

Woods was pronounced dead at the scene. Richter sustained serious injuries and was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Lieutenant Pat Kane of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

Kane said it appears that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Deputy Jeff McFarland will be reconstructing the accident, Kane said.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by fire departments from Trenton and Lamoine.
