Delivered packages disappear



BAR HARBOR — Thanks to someone being naughty, some Town Hill residents might be deprived of Christmas presents. On Dec. 2, police investigated two reports of packages being taken from mailboxes.

In one case, officers determined the packages were taken on Dec. 1, and in the other, on Nov. 26.

Phone scam complaints also were reported.

On Dec. 4, a resident told police he received a call from an organization purportedly involved with civil rights. The resident said he gave the caller his social security number, which law enforcement officials urge people never to do.

Police on Friday received a complaint about a scam call from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The caller said the resident would be arrested if he did not comply. In this case, no personal information was disclosed.

A Bar Harbor woman was warned Monday for allowing a dog to run at large after the canine chased a deer onto the road, where it was struck by a car.

Jesse Dyer, 31, of Mount Desert was eastbound on the Crooked Road when his 2008 Volvo struck the deer.

The dog’s owner, Melinda Hill of Bar Harbor, received the warning.

Donna Beals, 56, of Mount Desert was arrested Saturday on a charge of operating while under the influence (OUI).

A 16-year-old Lamoine girl was arrested Saturday on a charge of OUI.

Also charged as a result of the vehicle stop by Officer Dana Austin was Riley Farnsworth, 20, of Bar Harbor. Farnsworth was summonsed on a charge of possession of liquor by a minor.

Benjamin Deane, 34, of Southwest Harbor was arrested Sunday on a charge of violating conditions of his release.

Korey Goodwin, 39, of Southwest Harbor was summonsed Friday on a speeding charge.

A Dec. 4 traffic stop led to two summonses for a Prospect Harbor man.

Caleb Sandstrom, 21, was charged with operating after suspension and speeding.

A car-deer accident Dec. 3 on the Pretty Marsh Road caused about $3,500 damage to a 2007 Honda driven by Linda Washburn, 66, of Tremont.

Trenton

On Dec. 4, a chunk of frozen snow blowing off a truck landed on a 1997 Subaru, breaking its windshield and denting the roof.

Valerie Howard, 58, of Bar Harbor was driving on Route 3 when her vehicle was damaged.

Southwest Harbor

Douglas Leslie, 57, of Southwest Harbor was arrested Friday on a charge of domestic violence assault.
