Chief search moving along

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Town officials expect interviews of candidates for the vacant police chief position to be held the second week of August, according to Town Manager Don Lagrange.

Southwest Harbor has been without a police chief since Dave Chapais retired in October. Lt. Mike Miller is serving as acting chief of the department.

The job description for the position states the town is looking for someone who is willing “to support a collaborative bid to participate in an island-wide police department in the near future.”

Members of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association are assisting in the search by narrowing the list of candidates to be interviewed. The successful candidate could be on-board within five weeks.

“By the first of September, we’ll hopefully have something concrete,” Lagrange said.
