Chief search is launched

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — After an executive session Tuesday to discuss hiring a new police chief, selectmen approved advertising for the position.

Help-wanted ads for police chief will be placed next week, Town Manager Don Lagrange said Wednesday.

The ad and job description, which now are available on the town’s website, states town officials are seeking someone with a minimum of 15 years experience in law enforcement with at least five of those years in a supervisory position. The ad indicates that someone certified as a law enforcement instructor is preferred.

“This position requires reorganization to provide qualified professional officers for full time staffing as well as reserve officers,” the ad states.
