Bar Harbor man charged with rape

BAR HARBOR — Officer Ken Mitchell has charged a Bar Harbor man with two counts of gross sexual assault in connection with the alleged rape of a woman, 19, at a gathering at an Eagle Lake Road apartment on Nov. 23, 2021.

Kemar S. Buckley, aka “Jay,” 28, was booked into the Hancock County Jail just before 1 a.m. on Feb. 8.

Buckley was released Feb. 9 on $10,000 cash bail with conditions to have no contact with the alleged victim and two of her friends, according to court records.

The woman’s friend took her to Mount Desert Island Hospital shortly after the alleged attack, where she met with Officer Amie Torrey and a sexual assault nurse examiner, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed by Mitchell on Feb. 2.

The woman advised police that Buckley had supplied her alcohol, but she did not know how much, Mitchell stated in the warrant.

“She did not know how much alcohol she had consumed because Jay [Buckley] would continually fill her glass so it never got empty,” Mitchell stated. “[She] stated she got more drunk than expected.”

Buckley told Officer Soren Sundberg that the woman had followed him into a bedroom and he’d asked her if he should use a condom and she said yes, Mitchell stated.

Ellsworth Attorney Steven Juskewitch is representing Buckley.
