BAR HARBOR — A march and rally for Earth is planned for Saturday, April 29, from 1-3 p.m., starting at the Village Green. The goals are to raise awareness about the need to constrain climate change and, for those who make the connection, to resist Trump’s assault on the environment, organizers said.
The local march and rally are inspired by the People’s Climate Movement March and Rally that day in Washington, D.C., and across America.
It is being organized by Indivisible MDI.
“We are energized by a conviction that we can mobilize our own expression of solidarity and offer a proud low-carbon footprint affirmation of action on climate change and resistance to Trump,” an organizer said.
The march is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Village Green, pass through some of the main streets of town, pause for a symbolic observation at the town pier, and return to the Village Green where the rally will be held from 2-3 p.m. State Rep. Brian Hubbell will be master of ceremonies of the rally. Speakers include Glenon Friedmann from A Climate to Thrive, David MacDonald from Friends of Acadia, State Rep. Walter Kumiega, who represents Southwest Harbor, Tremont, the Cranberry Isles, College of the Atlantic representatives and area school students.
