‘Chebacco’ to be launched at historical society event

MOUNT DESERT — The 19th volume of “Chebacco,” the journal of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society, will be released at an event at the Somesville museum on Thursday, April 5, from 4-6 p.m.

“Beholding the Past” features articles on objects from throughout Mount Desert Island’s history and full-color photographs by Jennifer Steen Booher. Contributing authors will read excerpts from the journal’s contents, which range from the provenance of a 1913 Peugeot to the discovery of 14 shoes concealed in the walls of a parsonage house on Great Cranberry Island. Historical Society members will be able to pick up their copies of the journal, and more editions will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served.
