BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce will hold a job fair at the Municipal Building here on Saturday, April 14, in hopes of connecting job seekers with 15 local businesses that need workers. Doors will open at 11 a.m.
Chamber officials said the event used to happen annually until about five years ago, when a tight labor market reduced the need for a job-seeking forum. This is the second annual fair since the chamber started the event up again in 2017 in response to an especially turbulent period in the visa programs for temporary foreign workers (see related story).
“With the visa issue that we’ve been having with the government, we found it was really necessary to start doing this,” said Kelly Pai Roos, event coordinator at the chamber.
Last year at the job fair, a number of people were hired on the spot, according to Pai Roos, and other candidates followed up with businesses the following week.
“I heard really good feedback from the businesses,” she said. “It’s a benefit to have all businesses in one section so people looking for positions can see who they match with.”
Employers participating in the fair have full-time, part-time, seasonal and year-round job opportunities. The businesses include Fiore Artisan Oils and Vinegars, The Bluenose Inn, the Wonderview Inn, Cromwell Harbor Motel, At Your Service Tours, Witham Family Hotels, Ocean Properties, the Jordan Pond House, The Looking Glass Restaurant, West End Drug, Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, Frenchman Bay Research Boating and Alpenglow.
The event is sponsored by Christmas Spirit Shop.
