SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Ian Campbell will join the management team of the MDI Community Sailing Center as year-round director of operations.
Campbell has spent his last 19 summers either sailing or instructing at the sailing center. He has assisted with the spring and fall high school sailing teams for several years. He is a native of Southwest Harbor.
“I honestly can’t remember a summer that I haven’t spent at the sailing center,” Campbell said. “I am looking forward to working with our staff to make all our programs educational, fun and most importantly safe.”
He is a graduate of Mount Desert Island High School, where he sailed with the fall sailing team, and of Curry College in Milton, Mass.
Most recently, he worked at the MIT Sailing Pavilion as a member of the dock staff.
“Ian stepping into this new year-round position will be a tremendous help with MDICSC management,” sailing center Director Glenn Squires said.
Over the winter, a volunteer crew built new shelving in the sailing center’s sail storage room, sanded and applied teak oil to four Bullseyes sailboats, overhauled a Newman rowboat and repaired faulty wiring on the center’s Boston Whaler.
Online registration for summer sailing programs begins March 5.
