Rotary elected board

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor (Mount Desert Island) Rotary Club elected its 2016-2017 board of directors on Nov. 18 at its annual meeting at Birch Bay Village.

Shaun Farrar, a Bar Harbor police sergeant who has been 15 years on the force, will be the president nominee. Farrar is currently the service chairman for the organization.

Farrar will join a long line of community members who have served as president since the Bar Harbor club was first sanctioned in 1968. Interestingly, the club’s first meeting was at the Bar Harbor police building. A founding member of the Bar Harbor Kids’ Book Festival, Farrar resides in Bar Harbor with Carrie Jones. They share two daughters, Emily Ciciotte and Lilly Farrar.

Joining Farrar on the incoming Rotary board of directors are past President Sue Kropff, Jim Ash, Art Blank, Steven Boucher, Liz Graves, Scott Hammond, Carrie Jones, Amanda Mogridge, Doreen Willett and Ron Wrobel.

The club organizes many local service projects and is currently preparing to sponsor wheelchairs in Belize. Projects include the MDI Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast and Seafood Festival, Bar Harbor Book Festival, food programs, the Mount Desert Island High School Interact Club, Park Street Playground revitalization and fundraising to fight polio and cancer. Each year, the club gives thousands of dollars to local causes, and its members mentor local students and participate in many charitable causes and boards.
