ELLSWORTH — It’s no secret that tourism is big business in Maine; this is Vacationland after all.

Nearly 30 million people visited the state in 2013 and left $5.2 billion behind, according to the Maine Office of Tourism. The tourism industry supports more than 85,000 jobs annually.

Helping visitors to Downeast Maine make the most of their trip is the goal of a new website that launched this week. Acadiavisitor.com is a product of Ellsworth American Inc. and its digital marketing agency, REACH Marketing.

Acadiavisitor.com highlights features from The Ellsworth American and Mount Desert Islander newspapers and Out & About in Coastal Maine, as well as original content, photo galleries and videos.

The Out & About visitor guide is printed four times a year and enjoyed by some 500,000 readers.

“Our goal is to help folks discover this unique Northeast corner of the U.S. and inform and entertain visitors once they’ve arrived,” explains Ellsworth American New Media Editor Cyndi Wood.

While called Acadia Visitor, the site features stories from the three counties of Downeast Maine. Visitors will be able to explore all the region has to offer and access resources to help in planning their trips.

The site features a comprehensive calendar of events and a handy directory of area businesses.
