Mill worker fund is established

BUCKSPORT — With the support of local unions, the Washington Hancock Community Agency is pleased to announce the creation of the Bucksport Mill Crisis Fund, a fund to support the laid-off mill workers of the Bucksport Verso Mill.

Now accepting donations, the fund will be used to provide support for affected workers facing financial crisis caused by the mill closure. With an estimated 570 workers involved, the unions and WHCA anticipate that many families will face financial hardship and need help with such things as home heating fuel, food, mortgage and rent assistance, among other things.

The Bucksport Mill Crisis fund is designed to alleviate that hardship through the generosity of local donors.

Those interested in donating may mail a check to WHCA, Bucksport Mill Crisis Fund, 248 Bucksport Road, Ellsworth, ME 04605, or donate online at www.whcacap.org, being sure to specify Bucksport Mill Crisis fund.
