MDI regional waste center explored

MOUNT DESERT — It makes financial sense for the towns that make up the Acadia Disposal District (ADD) to develop a regional waste transfer station and recycling facility on or near Mount Desert Island, but only if Bar Harbor and Lamoine join the ADD.

That is a conclusion of the consulting firm CES, which the ADD hired to evaluate possible waste management and recycling options.

Currently, the ADD members are Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Mount Desert, Tremont and Trenton.
