SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Kate Macko has joined the board of directors of the Acadia Family Center. “We feel most fortunate to have Kate join our team,” said board Chair Sam Hamill. “She has great energy and an obvious passion for our mission. She has already made a positive impact co-chairing our education and outreach committee.”
“I wholeheartedly believe connection is the key to wellness,” said Macko. “Connection to others, to oneself and to our natural environment. I’ve been impressed by how many avenues AFC provides for people to find that connection. The more connected we feel, the less we allow stigma to hang around recovery efforts, leaving more room for personal growth. I am honored to join the AFC board and to work with such an impressive group of people for this worthy cause.”
Macko grew up on Mount Desert Island. After graduating from MDI High School, she studied classical and medieval studies at Bates College in Lewiston. Macko is active in the local community and has worked for various businesses, organizations and institutions on the island. She is currently employed by the Jackson Laboratory and lives in Bar Harbor with her husband and their daughter.
