BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday that it has named a new executive director.

A resident of Swans Island as a child, the new executive has been a frequent visitor to Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor. She is slated to begin her duties on Monday, May 25.

Most recently, Nancy McKechnie of Hampden worked at the Eastern Maine Development Corporation in Bangor, where she was Deputy Director of Workforce Development. She also worked as Youth Program Manager for that organization.

“She will bring a breadth of knowledge with her when she arrives on Monday along with her excitement, creativity and passion for our region,” said Chamber president Stacey Smith of Bar Harbor. “Nancy has spent a great deal of time in and around Bar Harbor, beginning with time spent on Swans Island during her youth. Nancy’s children are grown and she and her husband Bill are looking forward to relocating to the island and becoming ambassadors for our beautiful spot in the world.”

Smith extended thanks to the search committee “for their thoughtful and measured approach to finding the right candidate for Bar Harbor.” She also praised the Chamber’s staff “as they have navigated this time of change and growth with dignity and professionalism.”
