Chamber hires events coordinator

BAR HARBOR — Jenny Bishop has been hired as events coordinator of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, taking over from Alf Anderson. Bishop will begin her official full-time responsibilities on Sept. 21, and Anderson will move into managing membership sales and marketing for the chamber.

Bishop is a Bar Harbor native who has spent the past eight years in San Francisco, Calif., where she most recently was employed at Shelter Co., a high-end camping company specializing in corporate and unique events, including weddings. Her experience in event planning and familiarity with the region will be an immediate asset to the chamber.

“2015 has been a really big growing year for the chamber, and I am so excited to announce that we are now at full capacity. Bringing on Jenny enabled us to evaluate everyone’s roles and responsibilities, and it made a lot of sense to revise nearly everyone’s job descriptions and duties. The team we have assembled is well placed to lead the chamber to new levels of success, and I am confident that our members and community partners will find this small but tenacious staff to be highly competent, easy to work with and focused on success,” said a chamber official.

As part of the reorganization of staff responsibilities, Anderson, who was hired in March as events associate, will transition to a full-time focus on marketing chamber members’ businesses, as well as the Bar Harbor region as a whole. Melanie Graten will continue in her role as director of visitor services, working in tandem with Nancy McKechnie to drive member retention. Keri Conlon will serve as administrative services manager overseeing the administration and managing the finances of the office.
