Chamber director leaving

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABAR HARBOR — Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Fogg will leave his position at the end of January after more than eight years here.

Chamber board of directors president Stacey Smith announced Tuesday that Fogg was taking a job as chief executive officer with the Maine Tourism Association. His last day in Bar Harbor will be Jan. 23.

Smith broke the news to chamber of commerce members in an email Tuesday, stating her mix of “sadness, regret and pride” in announcing Fogg’s new position.

“Chris became our Executive Director in September of 2006 and for the last eight years has worked hard to bring our organization to a new level of professionalism and stature,” Smith wrote. “While I am sad to see Chris leave us, I am very proud of the effort he has put forth on our behalf.” Among Fogg’s achievements are growth in chamber membership, a very successful public relations program and a more robust relationship with local government, Smith said.

“These efforts have obviously not gone unnoticed. In October you will remember that Chris was named Chamber Executive of the Year by the Maine State Chamber and now he has been tapped to lead the Maine Tourism Association. We will be assured of being well represented in Augusta.”
