Biolab lands grant

BAR HARBOR U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $392,463 to Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory to support innovative research for the treatment of several diseases including heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.“The researchers at MDI Biological Laboratory are working tirelessly to expand our understanding of diseases and strategies to advance modern medicine,” said Collins and King in a joint statement.

The grant funding has been awarded through the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, one of the 27 institutes that combine to form the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services.
