Jesup donation match deadline nears

BAR HARBOR — There is still time to double your donation to the Jesup Memorial Library in April. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s $2,500 matching challenge for new and returning donors to the library ends on Saturday, April 30, at midnight.

If you have never given to the Jesup before, or if you have not given in a few years, your donation goes twice as far. Businesses also can donate and join the library’s business council. If you are currently a Jesup donor, let you friends and family know about the match.

All money raised will go directly to support everything that the library offers on a daily basis. As a private nonprofit, the Jesup has served as the public library in the town of Bar Harbor since the library opened in 1911. However, the town provides less than 5 percent of the funds needed by the library to keep the doors open. Endowment provides another 43 percent. The rest comes from generous individuals and businesses.

In 2015, the Jesup welcomed more than 8,800 people to more than 400 programs for children and adults – concerts, author talks, arts and crafts, science and technology and other lectures. Plus, the library offers free 24-hour Wi-Fi and access to public computers, plus the thousands of books and e-books, music, movies and even a telescope to be checked out.

Donations can be made through the Jesup’s website at www.jesuplibrary.org (look for the big red “donate” button on the home page), in person at the library or mailed to 34 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.

A donation to the Jesup is a donation to the community. Contact Melinda Rice, director of development and dommunications for the Jesup, at 288-4245 (library), 801-8331 (cell) or [email protected].
