SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Acadia Family Center has welcomed Josh Kane of Bar Harbor to the AFC Board.
“We are proud to welcome Josh to our board of directors. As a respected representative of the MDI fishing community, he brings an important perspective that will help round out our diverse board of year-round and summer residents. We look forward to working with Josh in the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among young people, as well as resources for recovery to everyone on Mount Desert Island and the surrounding communities,” said board chair Sam Hamill.
Kane was born and raised in Bar Harbor and attended Conners Emerson School. Since graduating from MDI High School, he has been a commercial fisherman in several different types of fisheries and is currently a lobsterman out of the Cranberry Isles. Father of two children, ages 7 and 9, and three step-children, Kane co-parents with his girlfriend. Both Kane and his girlfriend live a life in recovery, and he is proud of the fact that he has been sober for over six years.
“I try to pass on my experience, strength and hope to newcomers in my recovery community and pass on what has been so freely given to me,” said Kane. “I believe Acadia Family Center is a great stepping stone to that mission and am looking forward to meeting everyone. As a busy dad, my time is somewhat limited, but I would never take on a task that I won’t try and give 100 percent.”
