MOUNT DESERT — Mount Desert 365 and the Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce are accepting applications for a business boot camp and business pitch competition, the winners of which will receive $10,000 in funding. Designed and facilitated by College of the Atlantic Professor Jay Friedlander, the events will be held in Northeast Harbor from March 9-11. It is being sponsored by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.
The boot camp and pitch competition welcomes applicants from across Mount Desert Island but will give preference to those located or opening a business in the town of Mount Desert to serve the year-round population. Interested parties can apply online at mountdesert365.org or download and return the application form.
The application deadline is Thursday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. Businesses that have been accepted will be notified on Feb. 23.
The boot camp and pitch competition will focus on participants’ specific business scenarios and goals and on developing the skills, tactics and strategy to move their business plans forward. Friedlander and his associate, former COA student and current startup consultant Jordan Motzkin, will be joined by volunteer mentors from the local or regional business community. “The idea for a Mount Desert Business Boot Camp emerged out of a conversation with Jay about his business boot camps with the Fair Food Network in other states, and how great it would be to bring his expertise to local business owners,” said Kathy Miller, Mount Desert 365 executive director. “Seeing how successful his participants were in other parts of the country was really exciting. We believe that this collaboration will be of great value to businesses and the community at large.”
Mount Desert 365 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating year-round housing and economic development opportunity for the town of Mount Desert.
