Building access change planned

TREMONT — After Oct. 1, a town-issued ID will be required for public use of the Community Building on Tremont Road.

Selectmen approved the change at their meeting Monday.

Currently, people interested in using the building can pick up the key at Gott’s Store. A key will continue to be available at Gott’s Store, but after Oct. 1 an ID issued by the town will be required to use the space. The ID will be available at the town office.

Frequently used for recreational purposes, the building is part of the Tremont Consolidated School. Use of the building before 6 p.m. requires permission from the school. Selectmen also suggested capping evening use at no later than 9 p.m.

In order to acquire an ID, people will need to provide proof of residency and a signature acknowledging review and agreement to the Community Building Policy and Rules for Use.

“It eliminates people from out of town using our property that shouldn’t really be here using it,” said Jeff Watson, a member of the Tremont Recreation Board.
