Boatworks rowathon

CRANBERRY ISLES — Islesford Boatworks (IB), the youth and community summer boatbuilding program, presents its second annual “Row-a-thon” fundraiser Saturday, July 16. The 10K row will include the fleet of boats made by IB students in previous years, along with all manner of other kayaks, skiffs and more.

Participants are collecting pledges, with a per-person goal of $250. The group hopes to raise $11,000 for its 11th year of programs.

The boatbuilding program continues through Aug. 5. Each age group meets twice per week. A new intermediate class is aimed at children who already know the basics of shop safety and have some woodworking skills.

Beginning boatbuilders, the youngest group, meets Wednesday and Friday mornings, 8:30 a.m. to noon. The new intermediate group meets Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, 1-5 p.m. The most advanced youth will be in the shop Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons.

Shop time for adult volunteers is set for Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7-10 p.m.

A launch party for this year’s boat is set for Saturday, Aug. 6.
