Boat burns in Seal Cove

TREMONT — The Tremont Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday evening that destroyed a motorboat that was sitting on dry land.

At around 7:20 p.m., dispatchers alerted fire department crews of a burning fiberglass boat that was reported to be within 25 feet of a home on Seal Cove Road.

Responders arrived at the scene to find a boat engulfed in flames and emitting thick, black smoke that could be seen up to a mile away.

With flames dangerously close to a nearby residence, the first firefighters at the scene worked to extinguish the fire, but some damage to the exterior siding and soffits of the home occurred. The boat is considered a total loss.

Crews returned to the station around 10 p.m.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
