Beth C. Wright Walk for Life Saturday expands ino Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — On Saturday, May 18, the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center will be expanding its biggest annual fundraising event to Ellsworth.

The 19th Annual Beth C. Wright Walk for Life, which was exclusively held in the Washington County town of Addison for the past 19 years, will now offer an additional walk in Hancock County.

The walk will begin at Knowlton Park in Ellsworth and continue down the Shore Road with a choice of 1-mile, 2-mile or 3-mile walk option.

Walkers will return to the Donald Little Park on State Street, will they will meet up with the festivities of the Ellsworth Garden Club’s plant sale and Pink Tulip Festival. The Addison Walk for Life will take place concurrently at the Addison Town Hall.

Michael Reisman, executive director of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center said, “We are really excited about bringing the Walk for Life to Ellsworth. There will be activities for all ages, so we encourage everyone to bring the entire family and enjoy a day full of fun and exercise.

“The Walk is our biggest fundraiser and walkers help the center by raising funds to further our mission of bringing free services and programs to those affected by cancer in Hancock and Washington Counties.”

Registration for the Ellsworth walk begins at 8:30 a.m., with the opening ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m.

All walkers are welcome to donate, obtain sponsors and form teams. Walk organizers will be offering two incentives including a free Walk for Life T-shirt for those who raise over $25 and a Walk for Life T-shirt and a Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center Reflective Vest with a zippered pouch for those raising over $75.

A variety of music will accompany the activities with the sounds of the Fletchers Landing Philharmonic Orchestra from 10 a.m. to noon, and the sounds of Jim Coffman and Russell Snyder from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Food will be provided including homemade baked goods, donuts, coffee and other drinks, pasta salad, hot dogs, and more. Children and adult oriented activities that will be offered including a Silent Auction, the Ellsworth Garden Club plant sale offering lots of native trees, shrubs and seedlings, Master Gardener Volunteer gardening advice table, area business and non-profit booths, and a pollinator scavenger hunt, free plants, face-painting and balloons for kids.
