MOUNT DESERT — Wine & Whiskers, an annual benefit for the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock County, kicks off Saturday, July 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Asticou Inn in Northeast Harbor.
Wine & Whiskers raises funds to support the more the dozens of animals left each year in the care of the SPCA of Hancock County. The local SPCA has been dedicated to finding homes for unwanted or surrendered pets and strays in Hancock County for more than 100 years.
The cost to attend the event is $125 per person, which includes food, dessert, an open bar and live music by The Crown Vics.
Highlight of the evening will be live and silent auctions featuring more than 60 items, including an elephant sculpture by Dan Falt, all-expense paid trips to Hawaii and New Orleans and jewelry designed by Northeast Harbor sea glass artist Lisa Hall. Other auction packages feature dining and pet sitting.
Benefit Co-Chair Nia Luck invites all friends of animals to show their support for the work of the shelter. “Wine & Whiskers will feature a collection of wonderful auction items along with delicious food and music for dancing. This is not just another summer cocktail party. It is the main event our shelter relies on to help keep it running. Each and every person who attends, donates or contributes is helping our animals get the care they so desperately need.”

Those unable to attend, but who wish to show their support, can send a tax-deductible donation to the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605.
