ACADIA NAT’L PARK —For people who enjoy exploring Acadia with their dog, Acadia has a new program called Bark Ranger.
The program encourages dogs and their owners to practice the proper etiquette for visiting Acadia and other wild places together.
To get started, dog owners can pick up a Bark Ranger activity checklist at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, the Sieur de Monts Nature Center or the ranger station at a campground in Acadia. Dogs and owners who complete at least one of the activities on the list can receive a wallet-size Bark Ranger certificate signed by a human park ranger.
There are free ranger-led programs in the evening at Seawall Campground and Schoodic Woods Campground for participants in the Bark Ranger program, both human and canine. Dates and times are listed on the park’s “Things to Do” website: go.nps.gov/Acadia2Do.
Proud owners of Bark Rangers are eligible to buy Bark Ranger collar tags and bandanas at the bookstore in the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.
