Ballot ordinance questions

SOUTHWEST HARBORSelectmen agreed to put five local ballot questions before voters at the election in November.

During their meeting on Tuesday night, selectmen voted in favor of placing five questions, four focusing on ordinances for the town and one to raise $12,700 for the Mount Height Cemetery.

Voters will be asked to repeal the town’s former Land Use Ordinance and approve an updated version from which items for a shoreland zoning ordinance have been removed, along with a few other small changes.

A new Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and a new Marijuana Ordinance, as well as amendments to the town’s Subdivision Ordinance are also separate questions to be put on the ballot.

Several public hearings have been scheduled during the month of September in order for residents to ask questions about the proposed new ordinances and changes.
