TREMONT — Proposed ordinances banning the use of single-use bags and polystyrene foam food containers will go before the public for review in April.
A public hearing is set for Tuesday, April 16, prior to a regularly scheduled selectmen meeting, to review the draft ordinance proposals.
Barring any suggested changes from the public or the town’s attorney, the ordinances will then go before voters at the annual town meeting in May.
Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor have already voted in favor of the ordinances banning single-use plastic bags and polystyrene foam food containers by businesses. Mount Desert is considering whether or not to put the bans before voters at this year’s town meeting.
