‘At Home’ offers senior support

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — At Home Mount Desert Island (AHMDI), an organization that supports seniors in their efforts to live at home, is now offering services and seeking volunteers.

Do you, a family member, friends or acquaintances wish to continue to live independently at home? Are you or loved ones facing the challenges that can come with advancing years and changing lifestyle needs? Would you like the peace of mind knowing that you have a supportive aging plan? Then you may want to know more about At Home Mount Desert Island.

At Home MDI is a member-based, volunteer-supported program of Washington-Hancock Community Agency designed to provide older community members of Southwest Harbor and Tremont with core services, empowering them to continue to live independently in their homes. Guiding words for those associated with the program are from Barry Barkan, who said, “An elder is a person who is still growing, still a learner, still with potential, and whose life continues to have within it promise for and connection to the future.”

AHMDI welcomes new volunteers and members. The program depends on community members advocating for the program, becoming volunteers and spreading the word to family or others in the community who would benefit from the services of At Home MDI.

April is volunteer month, a good time to consider volunteering. There are many ways to help At Home Mount Desert Island. To learn how, call our office at 374-5852 or email Program Manager Kara Janes at [email protected]
