SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Southwest Harbor Public Library will launch its iPad lending program with an “Appy Hour” on Friday, Dec. 5, from 2-4 p.m. The event will be presented by Jared Leadbetter, technology coordinator at the Maine State Library.
For users of mobile devices, applications (apps) are what turn a smartphone into a GPS navigator, or a tablet into a gaming machine. But apps can do so much more. Join Leadbetter as he talks about a selection of apps currently available for Apple and Android devices that can expand how you use your device and look at the world of mobile computing.
The “Technology Petting Zoo,” the Maine State Library’s rotating exhibit of mobile devices, will be on hand for this event and on display at the library through Thursday, Dec. 18.
From 1-3 p.m. on the Wednesdays of Dec. 10 and 17, the library also will hold two “Zoo” sessions to present and answer questions about the six mobile devices in the “Tech Petting Zoo” display. The devices included in the display are the Kindle PaperWhite (e-reader), Nook SimpleTouch (e-reader), Nook HD+ (tablet), Kindle Fire (tablet), Apple iPad Mini (tablet), and Google Nexus 7 (tablet). Registration is not necessary.
As part of the library’s technology outreach, two iPads will be available for patrons to borrow and explore in their homes. The library also will have two iPads for use in the library.
